For Monday, write a two to three page response to Joyce Carol Oates' short story, "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?". You may research the story a bit; for example, when was it written? How come the story is dedicated to Bob Dylan? Is it a true story or it is fiction? 

• Please type your paper, following MLA format: 12-point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, evidence cited. Your essay must use three quotations from the text. Your essay should consist of an introduction paragraph, at least three support paragraphs, each of which includes a quote-- it should be punctuated and cited correctly-- and a conclusion, giving your final thoughts in regards to the thesis and what your support paragraph have to say. This essay must be typed, printed, and ready for class on Monday (3/30/2015). 

Some ideas about what to write:

Do you notice any patterns in the text?
Can you point out a theme? 
How are characters portrayed? 
What are the characters relationships? 

Here's an example academic style thesis (or main idea, the one which all my support paragraphs speak about): In the short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, the main character, Connie, is not close with her parents. 

Each paragraph after my thesis will show how Connie is not close with her parents. To prove or explore my point, I would use a quote, showing an example from the story about Connie's relationship with her parents, in each body paragraph. In the end, I would conclude with my final thoughts on my thesis. 

Try your best to use the sentence patterns to express your ideas. Try to link your sentences. Don't forget to follow the support paragraph pattern and to make transitions between paragraphs.
