Writing Essay

Answer the following question to the best of your ability. Use quotations, where necessary, to make/support your point.

Poets use figures of speech and imagery to achieve effects beyond the power of ordinary language. From among the poems we have studied this semester, pick Shakespeare’s sonnet “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day,” and compare it to Owen’s “Dulce et Decorum Est.” First show how each poet uses figurative language and imagery in their poems. Next, tell us which poet, in your opinion, does a better job, and why?
