The reasons for doing this research are good. I would like to see a bit more detail on how the question might be answered. I would like to see for example some consideration of how this might be achieved. For example there is potential in the western system for greater restrictions to be placed on what sorts of things loans can be made for (eg to avoid the mortgage rebundling). However this might conflict with a growth policy where banks in particular would in effect be expanding the loan market. Otherwise I am sure that you will be able to develop this well.

Research Question:
Would the wider implementation of Islamic banking principles have avoided or reduced the effects of the recent world financial crisis?
There is a general agreement between financial scholars, economists and financial experts about the causes and the consequences of the global financial crisis.
During my research I will try to test the statement that said by some financial scholars:
“Such crisis would not have occurred under an Islamic financial system – due to the fact that most, if not all, of the factors that have caused or contributed to the development and the spread of the crisis are not allowed under the rules and guidance of Shariah.”
