A container in the shape of a right circular cylinder with no top but with a bottom has surface area 12pi ft^2. What height h and base radius r will maximize the volume of the cylinder, and what is this maximum volume? The volume of cylinder is given by V = pi r^2 h and the lateral surface area is A = 2pi rh.
SA = 2pi rh + pi r^2 = 12pi
