Explain how the evidence that your peers have presented either shows strong support for their conclusions or weak support for their conclusions. Be sure to present counter-evidence or corroborating evidence when possible. You must use at least two scholarly sources to support your explanation.
Blood doping, is a process in which the athlete donates blood to himself and stores it and then it is transfused back into the athlete prior to competition. It raises red blood cell count and oxygen delivering capacity. It has the same effects as EPO which is a hormone produced naturally by the body to stimulate bone marrow to produce more red cells, but is also given medically into people with anemia, but also into elite athletes to increase aerobic capacity. The risk for both is stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and death (www.medicinenet.com, 2016). The breathing in of hyperoxic gas increases maximum performance time. (Welch, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). It increases the oxygen-carrying capacity by, but at sea level (Katch, 2015).
A safe method for all people who are exercising or are elite athletes is a warm up before exercising. "A moderate cardiovascular warm up before sudden strenuous exercise reduces cardiac workload and enhances coronary blood flow" (Katch, 2015).
For an elite athlete in Denver, CO I would first recommend the warm up. This is good for everyone who is performing any type of exercise and is beneficial in all altitudes.
Blood doping can also be done in all altitudes, but I do not recommend it because of the serious side effects. Also living in a higher altitude I also would not recommend the breathing in of hyperoxic gas because it is only effective at sea level and I am not sure that it would help him in Denver, Colorado.
