We are all very aware of the world of social networking and how integrated it is into our world today. Students of the current generation thrive and interact in these environments on a daily basis. Discuss whether or not you think these online social network environments are an appropriate tool to integrate into the online classroom. Are there benefits to using these social networks for course work and/or communication? What is your experience with social networking?

Hi Class.  Similar to the first discussion, this prompt raises questions about one, specific digital technology: social networking.  And in that area, I think an alternate element must be considered, especially if we're talking about a classroom full of adults, or an asynchronous environment such as this one, perhaps.

Thus, another question arises: Can we prevent students using these resources?  Should we try to prevent such uses if we're not integrating them into the class ourselves?
