(week3d2) can you give feedback to my classmate ( this not an essay) 100-150 word please (8/17/15 MORNING)
The two topics I selected are separation anxiety as well as object permanence. Separation anxiety is a feeling of stress experienced by some when they are separated from someone or something. Object permanence is the understanding that an object is still in existence even though you may not be able to see it.
b. I can provide support as an elementary school teacher to a child with separation anxiety by building their confidence in themselves. For example, a child may not want to leave their parent, especially on the first day of school. However by providing engaging activities right away, this can distract a child and involve them with something new. Also, by making these activities, high reward someone, such as offering stickers as prizes, the child will gain confidence in themselves to be alone. For object permanence, this issue is typically grown out of after the toddler phase. It is common for toddlers to assume that when they cannot see their mother, it means she is gone forever. However as we continue to experience the return of mother for example, we learn that just because we cannot see something, it still exists.
c. From a developmental perspective, separation anxiety and object permanence are both natural for young children. As we age we gain confidence and understanding and tend to grow out of these phases.
d. I would tell parents to try and be patient. Some toddler may take a longer time to learn to be alone and to learn that things do not dissappear.
