Assignment - Mock Career Interview

Purpose:

Complete a mock interview with a professional in your career field, obtain a copy of the interview evaluation and write a 1-page paper on your experience.

The purpose of this final interview assignment is to provide related experience with a professional organization in your field of study. Through the mock interview you will gain interview experience, network/make a connection in your industry, and/or potentially get a job offer. This could be your next opportunity, so prepare accordingly.

Preparation:

Before the Interview

Before your appointment, review and practice your interviewing skills.

•      Review the following course material in  Readings and Tools 

•      Practice Interview Questions

•      Dress for Success

•      Interview Evaluation

     •      Finalize you cover letter, resume, and references.

Go into SHARC and use ProQuest and do a search for "interviewing tips," "interviewing techniques," or some other variant.

    - What does the article say to do?

    - Does it fit in with the tools discussed in the Readings and Tools?

    - How can you incorporate information from the article with your assignment?

During the Interview

Smile and relax. Be confident in your skills, ability and knowledge!

After the Interview

When you have completed the mock interview obtain a completed evaluation sheet from the interviewer.

Do not forget to send a thank you email to your interviewer.

** Email and bring a copy of the interview evaluation form and your portfolio (cover letter, resume, and references) for the interviewer.

** For assistance, schedule a time to practice with your Career Services Advisor. 

Assignment Submission Guidelines:

Write a one-page self-evaluation paper discussing your performance during the interview. Be sure to reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement. Include lessons learned from the evaluation comments.
