Week 7 Written Assignment

Between the textbook, the video in the outside reading, and the discussions, there are quite a few suggestions for how cybersecurity could be improved through diplomacy and international cooperation. Choose three of those suggestions, describe how it would work and how it could improve cybersecurity. As part of this, you must identify how each ties back to deterrence.

For instance, you might choose the Budapest convention as one of your three topics. The textbook briefly mentioned the “Council of Europe's Convention on Cybercrime” on page 187. This is more commonly known as the “Budapest Convention”. Regarding deterrence, you could say something like “Countries that abide by the Budapest Convention improve the response element of deterrence by cooperating in law enforcement investigations of cyber attacks.”

The total length of your answers must be at least 400 words, with each topic being about 100 words (minimum). However, only the total length will be counted in determining the maximum points possible, which as usual, will be decreased by 1/2 point for each 50 words the essay is short.
