week 7
Exercise 4.1: Design for the Elderly
In many of the main markets for mobiles, populations are aging with life expectancy increasing. While the current generation of elderly people might not be attracted by advanced mobile services, future older users (including you!) who have grown up with the technology might be an important segment of the market. However, little work has yet been done on design for this group.
- What attributes would you recommend when designing for this group?
- Take a mobile interface you are familiar with and critique its design with respect to use by the elderly.
Exercise Workshop Question
Imagine you've just completed the interaction design for a new mobile service for a large broadband mobile network operator. What pressures might the development team face that might lead to the design being compromised? How might you work to reduce the implications of such influences?
