week 2 work to complete!

  • Week 2: System or Application Design
  • For this assignment, you will use Visio Software Application to develop the design employing the following computer-aided software engineering (CASE) modeling tools:

    • Use case
    • Functional decomposition diagram
    • Entity-relationship (E-R) diagram, data flow diagram (DF), or class diagram
    • Sequence diagram
    • Mock-up or storyboard of the user interface screens

The project deliverables are as follows:

    • Update the System Requirements, Design, and Implementation Specification title page with new date.
    • Update the previously completed sections based on the instructor's feedback.
    • System or Application Design
      • Develop a high-level use case to represent the application as a whole.
      • Develop a functional decomposition diagram to show all of the functions that the system or application will support.
      • Develop an E-R diagram, class diagram, or a data flow diagram that effectively represents the data that are required for your application or system.
      • Develop a sequence diagram to represent the timing of various activities within the application or system.
      • Develop a mock-up or storyboard for the high-level interface screens.

Week 1

The project deliverables are as follows:

  • Submit your project proposal to your instructor for approval.
  • System Requirements, Design, and Implementation Specification
    • Use Word
    • Title page
      • Course number and name
      • Project name
      • Your name
      • Date
    • Table of Contents (TOC)
      • Use an autogenerated TOC.
      • This should be on a separate page.
      • This should be a maximum of 3 levels deep.
      • Be sure to update the fields of the TOC so that it is up-to-date before submitting your project.
    • Section Headings (create each heading on a new page with “TBD” as content, except for Week 1)
      • Week 1: System or Application Overview

      • Week 5: Integration and Deployment Plan
  • Week 1: System or Application Overview
    • Provide a brief description of the system or application's capabilities.
    • Who are the intended users and stakeholders?
    • Who is the project initiator or sponsor?
    • Be sure that this project is approved by the instructor before you proceed.
  • Week 1: Requirements Specification
    • Include the overall goals and objectives of the application or system.
    • Include elicitation methods that are used to gather requirements.
    • Describe functional requirements.
      • Include a short description of the function being supported, a detailed description of the requirements, and how they will be measured during testing.
    • Describe the nonfunctional requirements, also known as attributes of the system addressing areas such as usability, security, and performance.
      • Include a short description of attribute category, a detailed description of the requirements, and how they will be measured during testing.
    • Include assumptions and constraints to frame the scope of the project.

Proposal for a Supply Chain Management (SCM) System

Alpha Company is a car manufacturing Company that needs Supply Chain Management (SCM) system to replace its old legacy order fulfillment systems. The SCM system is aimed at improving service delivery through an efficient and effective ordering system; this will ultimately improve the competitive advantage of the Company. Alpha is currently utilizing a legacy order fulfillment systems in managing its inventory and distribution, these systems do not integrate well which has increased redundancy in the input data as well as in the data that is processed. There is also redundancy of processes which has made work to be duplicated requiring multiple data entry points while sometimes resulting in irreconcilable and inaccurate data. The legacy order fulfillment systems have led to the shortage of supply due to the time that is taken for the data to flow from one point to the other. This has made customers to be dissatisfied and unhappy. The legacy systems have also increased carrying costs which will be eliminated after full realization of the SCM system.

The project of implementing a SCM system will cost Alpha $100,000 including all the resources and infrastructure involved in the development process, the maintenance cost every year would be approximately $10,000 and the system will have a life-cycle of 10 years which is enough time for the system to be reevaluated again for improvement. There are many benefits that will come with the SCM system including reduced order fulfillment processing time and reduced inventory carrying costs. Since the SCM system will come with latest and advanced technologies, Alpha Company will enjoy high performance work systems. The current information technology and business world is making it increasingly necessary for organization to implement information systems such as the SCM system so as to improve business management functional units. The SCM system is very critical to Alpha Company in order for the Company to have its supply chain processes run smoothly, the system will improve customer satisfaction and ultimately competitive advantage of the Company.
