Week 1 Misleading Graphs

Each weekly assignment contains two parts.  Part 1 contains statistics problems and part 2 contains a weekly writing assignment.

Part 1 - Problems:

 Complete all of the following questions/problems from the book.

Page 16 #1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22

Part 2 - Writing Assignment:

Write a brief APA-style paper addressing the following topic:

 In your future career, you will be asked to collect data, analyze data and write reports.  In the analysis of data, you may choose to display your results in a graph. 

This week we discuss misleading graphs.  This is something we need to be aware of, not only for reporting results, but also as we read and interpret graphs (to be observant and look for key points on a graph).  Find a graph that appears to be misleading and discuss (internet, news, ProQuest, etc.).  Explain ways you would change the graph to make it appear more accurate.

•1-2 paragraphs (4-8 sentences each)
