Week 05 Discussion - Setzuan Society

Please share your thoughts about the following discussion with classmates:

Brecht intended to be critical of modern capitalist society. Think about the way in which capitalism is portrayed in The Good Woman of Setzuan. Do you think Brecht gives a fair description of modern economic systems? Why or why not? In your discussion, come up with examples of capitalism from the play and try to think of how they might relate to issues of our own time. For example, you might discuss elements of the trial and how they may or may not relate to our current justice system.
