Web Usability Evaluation – Part 2
OnTimeSelect a favorite Web site you deem highly usable and write a five-page evaluation using the second half of Nielsen's ten usability heuristics.
For this assessment, demonstrate your understanding of the second half of Nielsen's ten usability heuristics by evaluating a Web site of your choosing.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2014) describes a heuristic evaluation as follows:
In a heuristic evaluation, usability experts review a site's interface and compare it against accepted usability principles. The analysis results in a list of potential usability issues . . . A heuristic evaluation should not replace usability testing. Although the heuristics relate to criteria that affect a site's usability, the issues identified in a heuristic evaluation are different than those found in a usability test. (para. 1, 2)
To begin, select a favorite Web site you deem highly usable and critically judge it using the second half of Nielsen's ten usability heuristics.
Then, write a five-page paper that includes a section for each of the following heuristics:
- Recognition rather than recall.
- Flexibility and efficiency of use.
- Aesthetic and minimalist design.
- Helps user recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors.
- Help and documentation.
Additional Requirements
- Include a title page and a references page.
- Include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.
- Include a minimum of three research resources.
- Be sure to follow APA guidelines for style and formatting.
- Your finished assessment should be five pages in length, excluding the title page and references page.
