Read Gustave Le Bon’s article “The Psychology of the Great War” found in your textbook (page 645).  The article addresses the effect of war on individual and collective behavior. Summarize his ideas concerning the Collective Forces, the Emergence of New Personalities, and the Exaltation of Patriotism.  Then read Karl Gorzel’s letter describing the Battle of the Somme (page 638). How are Gustave Le Bon’s ideas reflected in this letter?
