Review the children’s section at a local bookstore. Consider and reflect upon the following questions:
- What is included in the collection?
- How does the collection support cultural and linguistic diversity, language development, and reading acquisition in young adolescents? Observe and reflect upon the range of books available, genres.
- Does the space within the bookstore encourage children’s engagement with high-quality literature, high-quality informational texts, and electronic sources? If so, how?
In 250-500-words, reflect on your observations. In addition, note any special staffing and/or events. Compare and contrast your observations to those at the public library.
Must include:
- Thoroughly reflects on community resources and environments that support cultural and linguistic diversity, language development and reading acquisition by encouraging children?s engagement with high quality literature, high quality informational texts, electronic sources, literacy staffing, and literacy special events with a thorough comparison and contrast between library resources and bookstore resources.
