What are the purposes of a victim impact statement? Explain each in detail, and provide detailed examples.
Victim impact statement (VIS) is attached to the PSI and usually includes a “description of the harm in terms of financial, social, psychological, and physical consequences of the crime.” The VIS may also include a statement concerning the victim’s feeling about the crime, the offender, and the proposed sentence. The investigating officer in some states may also be required to provide the offender information to a victim.
