Verbal and Nonverbal Communication

1)     How does language affect culture?

2)  How can communication be negatively affected by language? Give specific examples.

Read Chapter 8 Samovar, Porter, McDaniel, and Roy to find the answers to these questions.  See Chapter 2 in Moran, Harris, and Moran.

3)  What are the different types of nonverbal communication?

4)  Discuss how cultural nonverbal differences might adversely affect communication in business? Give many specific examples. Emphasize nonverbal differences that may cause confusion between cultures. Also see Chapter two.

 List these questions and then answer them.  Be sure you document correctly.   When you cite the text, use the Authors' last names, the date, and the page number.  Use quotation marks if you are quoting.  Document even when you paraphrase.  You should paraphrase most of the material.  See the writing guidelines for this course to help with documentation.
