CURRENT EVENT EVALUATION FORM

Date of Current Event:  (Must be within the past 90 days)

Source:  (From what source did you obtain the event?  The source must be credible and properly cited using APA Manual 6^th Ed.)

Topic:  (What is the legal topic of your current event? The topic must be related the legal profession, and if possible the subject matter of the week’s lesson.  Be sure that your article thoroughly addresses the topic.  If you need to look at additional sources or articles to properly address your current event, then you must do so and include those sources/articles in your assignments.)

Content:  In paragraph format discuss your current event, placing the article into your own words.  Please don’t quote information from the current event.  You only use quotations when information cannot be properly conveyed without doing so and that is rare. 

·         Identify the issue in the current event

·         Identify the important (relevant) facts

o   Point out the facts for the issue

o   Point out the facts against the issue

·         Conclusions:  Discuss any conclusions identified in the current event or that you drew as a result of reading the current event

·         Law:  Identify the applicable law associated with the current event

·         Analysis:  What happened in the article to cause the issue.

·         Viewpoints:  Identify and discuss

o   Fallacies/oversimplifications/errors and/or distortions  

·         State whether you agree or disagree with the current event and explain the reasoning for your position

Use active sentence structure and proper grammar and punctuation.  In your initial posting assume you are providing the information to someone who has not reviewed the current event.
