SEXUAL RELATIONS BETWEEN RACES
Introduction
The short story written by Chopin is a clear manifestation of a society which is a packed up in a ray of racial segregation. It is a clear indication that as much as we have the issues which cut across, the issues which hold following facts of facing out segregation. It has been believed that sexual relations between two people of different races ca be used as a means of reducing the difference in races. While marriage may be taken to be a way that can be said to reduce the facts on races, we also have to identify the effects of the impending differences. We have also to agree to the fact that, it is only until the issue of race differences is faced out, then racism is here to stay (Benedict 23).
The study focuses on how to sexual relations between two people of different races works on uniting them. As depicted in the Desiree baby, Armand still passes racial gimmicks to his slaves and the worst is his wife. It is in effect that I think, a marriage between two people of different races cannot be used to solve racism.
Reasons for Thesis
Kate Chopin is one pf the writers who have written about the issues on a racial relationship when it comes to matters of women and racism. In the same way, she wrote the short story with an intention of making sure that, she offers her mind about sexual relations among the different races and how this can be a bridge with marriage. It is very evident in the start that marriage among races is one of the sensitive during the lifetime, and many of it strikes the heart of US. It is a real revelation the class-based and racial prejudice which has been in the heart compelling the attitudes of the antebellum South (Gobineau 45).Within the article, we can clearly depict there is a particular relation which is practices without true revelation of the feelings of each party and exit is true and its exactness that the status of the family which is based on different races cannot last. In the story, Armand falls in love with Desiree but in effect, they part ways because Desiree is of mixed races.
Within the study, we can quickly identify that the status of the other races is at precarious state given the end up on the wrong side of both of these characteristics where the Desiree has to come to terms with the situation of the social and mental state. We have to understand the fact that Desiree is an innocent female who was rescued, and she wanted solaced from the man who she loved. It is in effect therefore that, it is not easy to have the issue of a sexual relationship cannot be used to solve the racism factor which is facing her. We can quickly note that as a result of the social isolation from a mental and emotional state to a physical one, she goes to make conclusions that we are still far from the civilization of that’s what’s the American society on matters of racism.
We are expected that with the culture, we are supposed to have the interracial relations to be used as a way of reducing the gap between the races. If it is essential for the unity among different races. We can say that sexual relationship cannot be used to face out racism as if Armand has procured it. In US, it is very clear that the issue cannot be faced out given the fact that, laws were changed to keep the races separate and not to allow marriages between members of different races, especially between people who by virtue of marriage would not maintain the purity of racial-ethnic groups as (Birnbaum 319) explains. The intentions were to make the marriages between Caucasians and African Americans illegal. In this discussion therein, it is far from the truth that racism will be faced out shortly. We are in the sense of making a conclusion that sexual relations, we cannot be allowed to say Desire got her fate because of the tradition that has happened in future.
The interracial relationships which have been expected to help reduce the issues of racism can be justified for the reasons not well known. In the sense that Asian Americans have also experienced difficulties in their interracial marriages, it is very clear that there are some perceptions on the issues of culture which cannot be wiped out. For example, the Asian communities have a very queer culture which cannot be quickly subdued, and when the intermarriages happen, it is hard to reduce this kind of barbarism. It was hard for Armand to keep Desire for the reasons of her child but she faces the impact of racism.
In the 19th century, the issues of sexual relations have been candidly flawed. The concept pf races or miscegenation has been given very derogatory connotation. According to (Birnbaum 320), we can quickly identify the fact that quadroon slave child who is fanning the Desire baby. While it means that interracial relationships have been the core of the society, at t the need of the day, it means, the victims of the racism becomes the slaves. There is also the concept that is much theoretical but not factual that, one drop of African in the features is taken to be black and not white.
The sexual relations among the different races has been factored as a competition where each needs to be considered in the white factor. We have people who want to inherit pale skin and European rather than African features which have been able to assimilate at least temporarily into white society just because they wanted to have the regarded as white and lived as so. In the sense for this derogation, Armand was not able to care much because she even did not understand the specific features she had. It is in effect that we are not able to comprehend that each race is as important as it is made. Some people like Armand is an angle to enter into the Southern “ruling” class which was a group of white rich people who owned plantations. In this effect, Armand found it hard to be able to accept the fact that, his child was going to have a blood of mixed race. While people have felt on the different space of the social group it becomes hard to for the different races to gain social acceptability. The quadroon boy is serving the master because he serves the biracial group as a demographic sector of the population that is largely based on the different cultures (Benedict 102).
The issue of Chopin story is an intriguing one because Desiree is probably of Caucasian blood, she innocently faces the impact of miscegenation. Armand, who is also of the mixed race even if they don't, he doesn’t know. The issue of the sexual relationship is that there is a preconceived idea in the fact that, Armand is of mixed race from the letter he burns that, he holds a secret of being mixed race. With the hidden issue of his mixed race, the question to ask his, will Armand go to the grave with the secret while he has gained much by being able to achieve some social class? Chopin clearly shows that it is an issue of familial class as of racial class.
Due to the different races, Armand shows clearly that he is not ready to mingle with the people of different races. We have had a long tray of discussions which clearly indicates that Armand mistreats his people to the effect that, he transfers the same act to the wife. It is also clearly demonstrated that he does not have any empathy for his own of a wife. Initially, we are told that the father to Armand was easy-going and indulgent. Armand comes out as being cruel and unfriendly to the effect that he takes the facts to point to castigate some his and intentions. We have seen him manipulate the wedding process they had with Desiree. He goes on sent off Desiree and burns anything that brings the harmony of their love. This is a clear manifestation of the failure of the racial marriage to bridge the gap among the people. It is felt that miscegenation could have been a way to reduce this, but Kate Chopin has clearly shown an otherwise situation (Gobineau 54).
Reasons against
In many cases, we have very distinct points which indicate that racial marriages can as well be said to have worked well. There are many racial marriages in the US which have worked, and it can be said as examples of bridging the gap among races. We have the Asian Americans who have had long time relationships that are so useful to the effect that, if such was going to be conducted by them, there could be a united force in the way. When there is a continued intermarriage among the races, it ends up being to the effects that, there is a gained unity among the races. We are also able to point out; people can obtain United understanding. People can accept and appreciate each other’s culture which is much needed to this effect. Although this is gaining popularity, we can say that the interracial relationships can be used to fight racism in American communities (Birnbaum 340).
Conclusion
It is very clear from the story "Desiree’s Baby" that the issue of sexual relationship among different races is far from being solved. We can identify the fact that Armand is not able to clearly identify with mixed race not because he doesn’t know but because he is not ready to identify with it. Desiree and her baby suffer from this, as a victim of miscegenation just because of the mixed race. Although as much as there are mixed marriages which have worked, we can as well not say it has materialized. Chopin clearly depicts that racism has been put into effect into marriages. The conclusion of the matter is, we cannot use sexual relationships to solve racism.
