It is another typical school year with back-to-school festivities, sports activities, and parent-teacher conferences. Only this time, your child’s teacher has given you a heads up that he or she would like to discuss a “sensitive matter.” When you arrive, the teacher says, “I think we need to get [insert child’s name] on some medication for ADHD.” 

As the parent in this situation, how do you respond? Do you accept the teacher’s suggestion? Do you ask for more evidence of the disorder? Are you concerned for what might happen to your child if he or she is given this label? How do you address the concern that your child might need treatment for a psychological disorder?
