This unit covered project management techniques. Select a possible project management situation from your work or school experience and develop a project plan with at least five activities and with at least
one predecessor activity. Create an activity network for your project. From your activity network, determine the critical path and identify any slack within your project. As you develop your project network be sure to think critically about each activity and
use your best estimate of the time for the activity. How has the process of developing a project plan impacted how you might manage projects in the future?" I am very stumped, and just cant figure out a good example, in which to incorporate the "predecessor
activity".... I work for a furniture company, so if you could make one for me, that resembles something in that field that would be helpful. ALSO, here is an example of my classmates post (this is what it should look like..)Hello All, For my project management
situation I have chosen a new processing line installation. The processing line includes four separate pieces of equipment used in the generation of polycarbonate and plastic eyeglasses. The four pieces of equipment include a generator, two polishing machines,
and a laser engraver. Activity Description Earliest Completion Time Immediate Predecessors A Preparation of Line Location 2 Weeks B Arrival of Processing Equipment 3 Weeks C Installation of Processing Equipment 2 Weeks A,B D Developing Procedures for Equipment
Operation 4 Weeks C E Training of Employees On New Equipment 3 Weeks A,B,C,D F Validating Customer Requirements/Testing 3 Weeks C G Full Scale Production A,B,C,D,E,F The critical path for this network is A-B-C-F-G. These components have to be completed in
order for us to reach full scale production which is the ultimate goal of full scale production. There is two weeks of slack time in node B for the arrival of equipment this is due to possible shipping issues created from the transit form Germany, and calculated
byLF=3 weeks EF=1 week LF-EF=2 weeks. The training of new employees and the development of procedures are not on the critical path because we will have the manufacturers of the equipment on-site for operation and testing while all the phases are complete and
are willing to stay to help us produce product. I have been fortunate enough to be involved in and lead projects in two different facilities in the past this example being one of them. I have learned from previous experience that no matter how good the plan
is, that the pessimistic approach is normally the right one to choose for time estimates. Even though slack time is considered waste it is best to make sure you have an adequate amount, because when you say a time the people above you are going to hold you
to this, and if you are to optimistic you could end up looking like you do not know what you are talking about.
