1.       1. Review the municipal solid waste management system in Figure 5.3 on page 143. Identify the two processes that have the greatest impact for bringing efficiency and cost savings.

b. In each area you identified, what activity would you focus your attention upon in that area to ensure that efficiency and cost savings are delivered?

c. What data would you collect and what measurements would you use so that you would know when the activity stopped delivering?

2. Compare municipal waste programs from other countries with those of the U.S. Utilize a table to capture any comparison data that you present. Describe what you like about the programs in Europe and what roadblocks exist for implementing these in the U.S. When it comes to improving the efficiency of managing municipal waste in the U.S., do you see the biggest hurdle as technology or as citizen apathy, and what would you suggest to change this?
