two letter each 9 sentences : one to African-American and one to the Continental Congress .

 we discuss a missed opportunity: using the example of the fight for "Freedom" in the American war for independence to stop chattel slavery. Many in America saw the contradiction of fighting for freedom and against being a "slave" to the king of England, and keeping persons in bondage at the same time. If African-Americans had been a big part of the fight (as some were) perhaps this would have happened, but it didn't- for 2 reasons: 1.) The English also promised slaves freedom for siding against independence and 2.) Slaveholders who fought for independence, though sensitive to the questions, could not be convinced to end slavery itself. Be the voice of persuasion for the American cause of freedom.

PARAGRAPH #1: In a general letter to African-Americans both free and in bondage that they should fight for Independence against the English and if they did so in great enough numbers they would be given their freedom. Give at least three reasons why siding with the Americans over the British would be the best way to gain freedom of all slaves in America. OR, if you believe this is not possible, convince the slaves of America to rise up and support the British against the American cause for independence and give at least 3 reasons why slaves should fight for the British Crown in order to secure freedom.

PARAGRAPH #2: In a letter to the Continental Congress, urge the legislature to outlaw chattel slavery in the cause of breaking off from King George of England and his oppressive ways and give 3 reasons why American independence should include freedom from African Americas. OR if you believed in Paragraph #1 that slaves should fight for the British as a Loyalist against American independence, write a letter to the British Parliament and  urge the House of Lords and House of Commons to outlaw chattel slavery in the British empire to preserve King George of England's hold over the American colonies and the oppression of American slaveholders, hypocrites in the cause of freedom when they persist in profiting from the labor of chattel slavery while declaring for "Freedom".
