Transplant Criteria

There are more people in need of an organ transplant than there are donor organs, and as such, there is a long waiting list of patients waiting to receive their transplant. Some of these patients will die before they receive the organ that could save their life. A waiting list is used to maintain the allocation of donor organs to patients.

For this module's assignment, design your own 1-2 page organ transplant waiting list criteria. Some points to consider include the following: What are the factors that will establish a patient's order on the list? How would you ensure that the most urgent cases receive proper attention? What happens if a patient exaggerates his or her condition in order to receive preferential treatment on the list?
