Learning Activity #1

Majestic Wines (the overall company) is an interesting example of a multi-business company.  It has a "portfolio" of four different businesses.

It's interesting that in our discussion of Naked Wines thus far, there has been very little said about how Majestic Wines (the overall company) not only has four different businesses but is in different businesses in different places.  Does this make sense?  Is this disparity a strategic issue (address soon), a strategic imperative (top three importance), or a strategic yawn (just not that important)?

Start by creating some sort of table or matrix or dot point outline that is clear about what businesses Majestic Wines operates in what places (countries).

Once you have completed your table/matrix/outline, create a simple dot-point outline of the three or four strategic actions (priorities and first steps) you think Majestic Wines should take to create a more effective corporate strategy with respect to developing its mix of businesses and the geographies in which they operate.  This LA should build on the general strategic priority thinking you have already done (although you are encouraged to modify your prior thinking based on new thinking).
