Introduction |
The know-how and expertise are here and now several institutions like ClonaAid are advocating the use of cloning as a service to paying customers. Ethicists, religious groups, and politicians are all actively engaged in deep thought and activism on a capability thought to be impossible only a few years ago. |
|
Main Instructions |
1) Technical details - How is human cloning performed? Enumerate the technical steps in producing a human adult from the precursor materials. 2) Impact on society Discuss the legal and social aspects of human cloning as a whole. What issues do you foresee as problem areas, and how would you propose to solve these? 3) Pros and cons Discuss your views of human cloning based on its pros and cons. Would you advocate its use or would you unequivocally say no to it? (Note: your views are not what will be graded but rather how you present and defend them). |
|
Grading |
1) Content - 30% Ideally, this report should not be a cut and paste endeavor; this said, the width and depth of material used will determine the effectiveness of your document in communicating clear terminology and ideas. 2) Analyses and defense of stance - 40% As mentioned earlier, your stance is not the criterion for grading. It is how well you analyze, present and defend your stance in the light of the issues arising from the nature and natural consequences of the topic. 3) Presentation and overall impact - 30% This includes formatting, spelling and grammar, and in general reflects the overall effort put in by the student in making the report professional and readable. |

MdUSA-derived references |
* To find journal articles, newspaper stories, statistical information, and other resources you will need to use electronic databases and indexes available at the library or the Web based UMUC collection of databases called MdUSA. MdUSA provides Web access to 90-plus databases available to UMUC students and faculty. Most contain the full text of the journal articles, newspaper stories, reference materials and other resources. Other databases offer title, abstract, and additional bibliographic information that can then be used to order the article through MdUSA for electronic delivery via e-mail. For more information on accessing and searching MdUSA, see the UMUC Information and Library Services Web page at http://www.umuc.edu/library/index.cfm or call DSN 225-3696.
