Technology In Society Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In this assignment, you will visually represent how technological innovations have met a specific social need over time.You will write a one to two page commentary (using current APA format) on how selected technological innovations have impacted society in a positive way.

To complete this assignment, do the following:

1. Identify a social need that technological innovations have addressed. (I have chosen TRANSPORTATION)
2. Create a graphic/visual representation of how technology has served over a period of time to meet the social need you identified. You may either:
   • Identify one innovation that has evolved over time to meet the need. For example, show the evolution of an innovation over time, such as, a household appliance, an airplane, telecommunications, timepiece, etc.
     
     OR
   • Identify several different innovations that have been created over time to address the need. For example, the social need of aerial transportation has been met by balloons, airplanes, etc. The social need of communication has been met by the telegraph, telephone, e-mail, etc.
3. On your visual representation, project into the future to show either where you see the innovation(s) going or how your social need will be met in the future.

Your visual representation can be in the form of a graph, chart, timeline, or another appropriate method. All topics must be approved by your instructor prior to beginning this project.

Additionally, write at least one page explaining how the technological innovations you identified have helped to shape modern society. Support you commentary with at least two example for demonstrative purposes.

All sources used must be cited appropriately within your visual and listed on a separate annotated reference page using APA formatting and citation style.

DELIVERABLES

Submit one completed visual representation and one written paragraph.

Image Resources, File Sizes

Many students will want to look for images to help create their visual representations. Refer to the Digital Image Resources document to help find images that you have rights to use. (Taking images from sites on the Internet which do not expressly give you permission to do so is copyright infringement and illegal.)

Be conscious of file size; your instructor will be viewing your work on a computer screen so images can and should be low resolution. (Large file sizes with high resolution are only meant for printing purposes.) If you are having trouble submitting your work it could be because your file is too large. If you find yourself in this situation, first try to reduce the resolution of any images used and then resubmit.
