Research: reading/written assignment (individual):

The student is required to select a fictional literary work (minimum of 250-300 plus pages) that takes place in a foreign country, written by a native born in-country author that depicts everyday life within the country. The assignment is to carefully read the narrative and determine the cultural characteristics of the home-country; does the story take place in an urban or rural environment (or both); determine the protagonist’s cultural characteristics and behavior; and lastly, does the story correlate with what is generally viewed to be the country’s national cultural characteristics? Are there differences in cultures (e.g., north vs. south, east-west) within the country? The written assignment should be four (4)-five (5) typed pages plus references.
