Stop and frisk

Examples of crimes that has happened like a cop stopping someone to ask them a question and led to an altercation or shooting can be added to the essay. And how has stop and frisk has changed during the years and if is still being practiced today. This is what i have so far.

                              Stop and Frisk

Many minorities around the are getting stopped due to the issue of  “Stop and Frisk”. The majority of people being stop are either black African American or Latin (Hispanic) people. This is a major impact in the  live in today because police officers mainly target on minority who are Black and Latin. Most of the stop and frisk incidents are likely to include rookie cops who are just learning the regulations of their job.. Why do police have this unexpected stop and frisk, is because they want to deter crime from happening around the neighborhood and having less crime rate around the community from people committing crimes. Broken windows theory can be used to explain the frequent occurrences of stop and frisk today.  Many crimes are happening in neighborhood and police are not finding the person who is committing the crimes. This essay will take a look at other theories that relates to stop and frisk such as the social disorganization  and social learning theory. On how all these theories implies on the reason why Stop and Frisk is a major effect before and yet today present.

Why is the stop and frisk policy  viewed as a daily duty for officers today?  Growing up in a neighborhood and adapting to older people who are enrolled in negative aspect in their life can be a reason why others follow their steps. For example, breaking car windows, with intention to steal or for  pleasure, can affect young  kids growing up because they are exposed to the negative affects that people are doing to their community.. This forwards them in following the same step growing and learning to adapt from others in a negative way. Stopping someone not necessarily means the person is about to commit a crime but the main point for the NYPD is to reduce crime rate not increase it. The advantages Stop and Frisk holds in today’s society is that through out the year’s crime rate is not the same as before in people committing crimes because police officers are finding them and stopping them before they commit the crime. Many people are afraid of being stopped because right away they think they being arrest for something bad they think they did. The disadvantage is that race of people, in other words on their appearance. Just because they present themselves and act like they following the regulations doesn’t necessarily makes them any different. People believe that police violates the fourteenth amendment in not giving people equal protection.  Knowing your rights gives you a big advantage with police officers because it utilize you in understanding what’s right and what’s wrong. At times officers feel they have all the “power” to do what they want when asking you a question or any investigation they looking for.
