Statistics Question
A landscape contractor blended his own fertilizer, called “Golding-Glow.” It consists of four chemical compounds, C-30, C-92, D-21, and E-11. The cost per pound for each compound is indicated as follows:
Chemical compound
Cost per pound ($)
C-30
0.15
C-92
0.10
D-21
0.12
E-11
0.06
The specifications for Golding-Glow are as follow:
E-11 must constitute at least 16% of the blend.
C-92 and C-30 must together constitute at least 45% of the blend.
D-21 and C-92 can together constitute no more than 30% of the blend.
Golding-Glow is packaged and sold in 50-pound bags.
a.) Formulate an LP problem to determine what blend of the four chemicals will allow Golding-Glow to minimize the cost per bag of the fertilizer. Show the objective function and the constraints.
b.) Use computer to solve this problem. Submit the printout with Sensitivity report.
c.) What is the optimal solution?
d.) What is the minimum cost?
e.) What is the Shadow value for each constraint? Explain what each shadow means.
f.) How much can the Right Hand Side of each constraint be increased or decreased when allowed? What will happen if the Right Hand Side is increased or decreased more than allowed?
