You have 3 different ones to choose to answer

1

Use the Health Exam Results data set and MINITAB to conduct a chi square test of independence. Use an alpha level = .05.

1. What is the null hypothesis? What is the alternative hypothesis?

2. Identify the type of t test conducted and explain why you selected the test you did.

3. Identify the IV and DV and the level of measurement for the IV and DV.

4. Do you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis?  What is the p-value? What information did you use to determine if the null hypothesis should or should not be rejected?

5. What is your conclusion based on your decision to reject or not reject the null hypothesis?

Week 7 Topic 1: Research hypothesis - chi square

Top of Form

Create a research hypothesis in your area of study that would be answered using a chi square test of independence. Include the following:

1. Introduction: Brief description of the study including the purpose and importance of the research question being asked.

2. What is the null hypothesis? What is the research hypothesis?

3. Participants/Sampling Method: Describe your sampling method. What is your sample size? Who is your population of interest? How representative is the sample of the population under study?

4. Data Analysis: Describe the statistical analysis. (HINT: This should be a chi square test of independence). What is your IV? What is your DV? What level of measurement are your IV and DV? What is your alpha level?

5. Results & Discussion: Did you reject the null hypothesis? What information did you use to lead you to your conclusion? Was your p value greater than or less than your alpha? NOTE: You can just make up numbers, but include your made-up p value.

Week 7 Topic 1: Critique chi square

Collapse

Top of Form

Find and critique one article in your area of interest where the authors use a chi square test of independence. Include the reference to your article using appropriate APA format. Your article must be from a peer-reviewed journal. Your critique should include the following:

1. State the purpose of the study (question study addresses) briefly.

2. Explain the importance of the question being asked.

3. Identify what sampling method was used and explain how this was or was not an appropriate sampling method.

4. Explain the statistical analysis (HINT: DEFINE A CHI SQUARE TEST OF INDEPENDENCE). What is the dependent variable? What is the independent variable? What level of measurement are the IV and DV?

5. Was the null hypothesis rejected? What information did you use to lead you to your conclusion? What did the authors(s) conclude based upon whether or not they obtained statistical significance? Explain whether or not the results have practical significance.

6. Include a “Teaching Point” in which you explain something in the article that is new to you – could be study design, sampling method, statistical analysis, etc. or something in the article that helped you better understand the material covered in this week's readings.
