SPSS and Powerpoint Slides
This dataset is from a study that evaluated the results of a new educational treatment for 9-12 year olds. The dataset contains 5 variables:
1. The first variable is the child's gender - it has two values - 1 = males and 2 = females
2. The second variable is treatment - it also has two values - 1 = traditional treatment and 2 = new treatment
3. The third variable is the child's age - it ranges from 9 to 12
4. The fourth variable is the child's math test score before treatment
5. The fifth variable is the child's math test score after treatment
Provide the appropriate descriptive statistics for each of the variables in the dataset. Next, you will need to decide whether you should use a t-test or ANOVA to compare males and females, those receiving the traditional and new treatment, as well as the different age groups, on both their pre-treatment and post-treatment scores. You will then conduct these analyses and interpret these results. Remember, if you have only two groups, and there are different people in those groups, you would use the independent samples t-test procedure, but if you have more than two groups, you'll use the simple ANOVA (see flowchart on p. 191 of our text). Finally, you will correlate the age variable with both the pre- and post-treatment scores. You should include slides in your presentation that summarize and interpret the results of these analyses.
