The progressive tense is formed by using the verb ESTAR and then the -iendo or -ando ending of a following verb. AR verbs take the ANDO ending (hablar, drop -ar, add -ando) and ER/IR verbs take the IENDO ending (comer, drop -er, add -iendo; vivir, drop the -ir, add the IENDO ending). The forms of ESTAR are:

yo ESTOY
tú ESTÁS
él, ella, usted ESTÁ
nosotros ESTAMOS
ellos, ellas, ustedes ESTÁN

SO, this tense, the progressive tense, is the equivalent of what we do in English to describe an action that is going on right now, in the present, in progress...(present progressive)...we use the verb TO BE (estar) and the ING ending of a second verb (the IENDO-ANDO ending in Spanish). In English I would say I AM STUDYING. In Spanish I would say (YO) ESTOY ESTUDIANDO.
We are eating. (NOSOTROS) ESTAMOS COMIENDO.
They are writing. (ELLAS)  ESTÁN ESCRIBIENDO.

To start off this forum, please answer the question "Cómo te llamas?

For this week´s forum, please write five sentences using this verb tense, the present progressive, to describe what you and other people are doing at the moment. Please use different forms of ESTAR, so five different personal pronouns (yo, tú, él, ella, usted, nosotros, etc.) as I did above...and please do not use my same sentences!! Be as descriptive as you like and can with the content we have so far covered. Also use different verbs in each sentence.

For the second part of this forum assignment, you will demonstrate awareness of adjective agreement in Spanish. Typically adjectives follow nouns in Spanish, where in English they precede them. We say WHITE HOUSE, where Spanish speakers say HOUSE WHITE (casa blanca)...please post four sentences in Spanish demonstrating proficiency with Adjective Agreement, this time to describe people or things around you. Use colors or other adjectives you have learned from the RS site. Please use four different adjectives and also demonstrate all four possibilities in terms of gender and plurality. (singular masculine, singular feminine, plural masculine, plural feminine).

Your initial post should, then, consist of nine sentences in Spanish...five using present progressive, and four showing adjective agreement.
You then need to read and reply to two other posts and comment on their work, making suggestions or corrections along the way. Constructive criticism can be in English, but if you wish to continue a dialog and ask further question, please use any Spanish you can to do so. Please do not simply say " good job" or "I see no errors" but rather choose to translate the sentences or respond in Spanish to some of the content. Do NOT post the English translations to your own sentences! This is also a good exercise for reading comprehension.

Estoy esperando sus comentarios.This week we will also recognize and practice adjective agreement. Adjectives most commonly follow nouns in Spanish (which is opposite of English) and change to agree with the gender and number of what they describe. (This DOES NOT happen in English). Study the following closely: 
la casa roja (the red house)
las casas rojas (the red houses)
el carro rojo (the red car)
los carros rojos (the red cars)

Above you see four different ways to write RED: rojo, roja, rojos, rojas. They agree with the gender of the noun they describe. Create sentences in the forum to demonstrate your understanding of this concept, which is a concept we do not have in English. Use adjectives that show all four possibilities -- singular masculine (ie "rojo"), singular feminine (ie "roja"), masculine plural (ie "rojos") and feminine plural (ie "rojas"). Please write a minimum of four sentences demonstrating adjective agreement and use a different adjective in each sentence.
