What does it mean to be an American? Think about the various political, economic, linguistic, historical, religious, and other social conditions that shaped the national identity in today’s America. Given what you learned in Chapter 13, what do you think American identity will look like by the year 2050? Well-formed responses must consider the impact that ethnicity, social class, gender, sexual orientation, and other social phenomena may have on establishing and/or maintaining national identity.
