Unit 5: Supply Chain Mechanisms - B:Team B Discussion Question:

This is an individual Discussionjust like all other Discussion Boards that you are used to. Your firstindividual posting should be by Saturday and two additional postings on twoother separate days.
You should respond in the Discussion area individually based on the roleassigned by your instructor.

This team area should be the mainwork space for team activities. Only the members of your team will be able toaccess the information contained here. Please use this area to negotiate thepossible renewal with the supplier.

There will be a minimum of one to two students assigned by yourinstructor to each negotiation team: So for example: Team A, 2 students’ representsGroup Green Market (GRM) and 2 represent Group Organikfarms (ORF). Team B, 2students represent Group Green Market and 2 represent Group Organic farms. Eachstudent's initial posting by Saturday should be a summary of the problem assurmised from the scenario. Then each team, Team A GRM team and Team A ORF teamfor instance, will negotiate using the negotiation process outlined belowwith the suppliers or the market negotiators based on their assigned team rolebelow. Remember to identify each member with the first name and GRM 1, GRM2,and ORF 1, ORF 2. An example would be: Susan GRM1.

Scenario: GreenMarket (GRM) assures their customers of thefreshest certified organic produce. They are located in California. They havemarkets predominantly in the western states of the U.S. Recently there havebeen some social networking sites and blogs with a few comments that some ofthe produce is in fact not organic. The contract with Organikfarms (ORF), aproduce supply company is up for renewal. GRM does have another supplier thatthey also rely on.

For each team of students:

A minimum of one to two students will represent GRM: Your company wants to ensure quality produce isshipped to their markets. You are concerned about the social networking sitesrecent barrage of negative comments and possibly tarnishing your company’sreputation and trademark. You also want a stipulation in the contract to allowyour company to get out of the contract if quality produce is not provided.

A minimum of one to two students will represent ORF and the workers. You pride yourselves on fresh organic produce provided by several hundred smallto medium sized farms. You need that contract as it is a large one and you wantit for two years or longer if you can get it.

TheNegotiation Process:

The Negotiation Process:

1. Determine what you arenegotiating, what your collateral is, or points you have to negotiate with.
2. Determine what cannot change – policy, legal, budget, etc.
3. Before you start to negotiate, know what your bottom line is below which youare not willing to relinquish.
4. Determine where the other side is coming from.
5. Think about what you might propose as a midpoint between where the otherparty wants to go and what you will ideally accept.
6. Be willing to compromise a bit to get some of what you want while allowingthe other party to save face and also to get some of what they want.
7. If you both have gotten some of what you wanted then it has probably been asuccessful negotiation.

Please be sure to work and post in this space. Your instructor will be gradingyou on your team’s negotiation of the issues based on your use of thenegotiation process to contract or not with ORF as the supplier for another 2years.

Keep in mind the importance of communication within all your courses at Kaplan:this importance is magnified with team project work. It is imperative that youcommunicate effectively and efficiently with your classmates during thisproject while respecting netiquette. Your postings should conform to standardDiscussion guidelines in your Syllabus.
