short response
For a short response prompt, the suggestion that comes to mind points more toward the first chapter, “The Path Towards the Other” (although I think there’s something worthwhile in the introduction; and not wanting to just skip that for absence of a question)
But with that first chapter it’s perhaps conveniently organized in 4 shorter titled subsections:
To Venture Upon the Path [9-17]
How to Welcome the Call of the Other? [17-24]
Sharing Needs, Sharing Desire [24-29]
each with some prospectively interesting ideas or questions to advance.
I’d like to suggest selecting a brief passage from at least two different subsections which seems to you to address or engage a key concept pursued in that part of the text.
Include a brief discussion of what you see as Irigaray’s apparent intentions with that passage.
What clarity (or complexity) does this passage bring to the text?
How does what you find here resemble or differ from other positions (ones that we’ve read or simply one that you find in everyday life) that approach (or avoid) such matters?
