Servant Leadership 2.2.1
150 word response to the below answered discussion question in apa format with in-text citations and references
Answer: The phrase is, “Money isn’t everything.” However, money does make the world go ‘round and we must be savvy to the fact that no matter how we try to make things about more than the bottom line, there will always be finances to understand. Often times, the opportunities a non-profit can provide its employees is more appealing despite a less-than lucrative salary. For example, in healthcare, non-profit organizations are often faith-based and for an individual who is highly religious, this could be more satisfying. Also, by working for a non-profit healthcare organization, an individual can feel a sense of pride for not contributing to the outrageous and out of control medical costs that plague our country (Chilingerian & Sherman, 1987). It is true that non-profits traditionally pay their staff less, however, there is a sense of pride that comes with working for a company that values more than just a dollar amount. A company that cares about the environment, people or just has a larger purpose in general is one that anyone would want to work for. Nobody really wants to work for a company that only cares about money made and dollars earned. There is so much more that satisfies and sustains people that it is important to tap into that to ensure longevity and engaged employees.
Original Question:
One of the challenges often faced by nonprofit organizations is financial viability. Consider how the service leadership model can make a nonprofit organization competitive in ways that are not profit driven. In your post, discuss whether or not the value the nonprofit provides to the community and the greater good is professionally appealing enough to make you want to explore as a career opportunity despite the fact that in many cases than the personal and financial gains offered by nonprofits may not match what is available in for-profit organizations.
