Schizophrenia and changes to DSM V

The Falvo text notes that a major problem for people with schizophrenia is adherence to medication protocols (taking their meds regularly).  Discuss why you think this is a common problem and then briefly describe some non-pharmalogical approaches for managing psychiatric disorders.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders had a new version released in 2013, followed by great controversy regarding the numerous changes: such as dropping the axis classification system, bereavement grief being allowable for major depressive disorder, changing the diagnosis of autism, adding behavioral addictions, and widening substance abuse disorders to include people who have only used once. 

Using your text book, the video and article I have added in your course materials, and your own experience with the stigma of diagnosis, offer your thoughts on how diagnoses can be helpful and harmful in treating or supporting people with psychiatric disabilities.
