Simply stated an annotated bibliography provides you with an expanded reference for the sources you may be gathering for a paper, project or proposal. It consists of a bibliographic citation (we will be using APA - American Psychology Association format) and a brief but comprehensive notation of important elements of the article, book or book chapter or on-line reference. I have found that an annotated bibliography is a very useful tool in tracking and organizing the sources I need whether it is a research paper, grant proposal or even a consulting project.

 Your second assignment involves searching and thoroughly reading a minimum of five scholarly resources for your project and writing an annotated bibliography. As with the first writing assignment, you should include sources that represent different research paradigms (objective, constructive and transformative).

 1) Please begin by going to the Union Library, Annotated Bibliographies section under the Help Center tab, http://library.myunion.edu/help-center/annotated-bibliographies/ and read the information linked to Purdue University and University of North Carolina. There are also two short video links to watch. If you have any questions or need any clarification after reading and watching the links, please contact me, Susan Whitehead or Klara Charlton.

 2) Search for and read your five sources.

 3) Write the annotated bibliography that includes the following information in your notation.

 Summary: A short paragraph summary that captures the key points of the reading. Please note that your annotation is not just a summary. A brief summary helps you keep the essential content of the reading clear and available.

 Evaluate/Critique: Here you want to analyze the source, the author’s credentials, position and/or bias on the topic and what makes this source valuable to your work.

In your analysis you may also want to briefly critique this source with others you have found. An example might be identifying the differences in research approaches among the sources you are using and/ or differences of position or approach taken by the authors.

 Additional notation: Are there any other points or comments that you want to note that address specific aspects you topic or needs you have? Generally speaking the annotated bibliography is your tool so you add anything that is going to help you.

 Your Annotated Bibliography should be approximately 5 pages plus title page, 12 font and APA format and upload into the course site under this assignment. You do not need to email it.
