"Code of Conduct Memo – Revision"

You are a manager at a call center. The company frowns upon phone calls and texting during work hours. You have looked the other way a few times, but it has started to get out of hand. You need to write a memo reminding everyone that private phone and text message use on company time is viewed as a violation of the company’s code of ethics.

Rewrite your earlier Code of Conduct  (Assignment 1) utilizing the professor’s feedback on organization, format, tone, and editorial issues. Review the example memo in the textbook before submission. In your document, you should:

  1. Ensure the memo is clear and brief.
  2. Choose language to match the purpose and tone for the situation and audience.
  3. Format the memo accurately and according to the details in the textbook.
  4. Create an effective opening that establishes goodwill without obscuring the message.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Memorandum

To: All employees

From: The manager

Date:

Subject: Review on private phone use in the workplace

All departmental employees should always concentrate on their work with minimum or no supervision. Therefore, I would like to discourage all those who use their phones during working hours. However, exceptions can only be made in cases of emergencies. In so doing, the company will achieve its maximum potential.

This memorandum reiterates the current policy that defines the inappropriate use of the phones by departmental employee. It has come to my attention through recent observations that employees use their cellphones to communicate to outside sources during work hours. This violates departmental policy regarding no use of cellphones whether texting, calling or even browsing during work hours. Additionally, checking on your family’s affairs while speaking aloud for us all to hear and therefore creating a distraction to everyone is not acceptable.

You are reminded that the ethical policies are there for a reason and they require to be respected at all costs. Use of company phones and cellphones must be in compliance with standing policies and ethical guidelines. Those who will be found violating this policy will be punished accordingly up to and including dismissal from employment. Violators may also be subject to criminal charges in a court of law.

Every employee should realize that the rules are there for a reason; hence, they should always uphold them. Clearly, some employees have forgotten the reason behind them working in this company resulting in their misbehavior. I therefore urge all of you to adhere to these policies and always work towards making our workplace a better place. All employees should therefore give a reflection of our core values at all times.
