Classroom procedures should be taught during the first week of school.  This helps everyone get into a routine for the rest of the year.  First, the teacher needs to teach the procedure to the students by telling them what is to be done and how to do it.  Once the teacher has explained the procedure, he or she will then model the procedure.  This could mean the teacher shows how the procedure is done using his or herself as the model or by asking student volunteers to step in and help as well.  When it comes to practicing the procedures, the teacher engages all the students in the procedure and makes sure that it is done properly.  If it is not done correctly, the students continue practicing it until they have the procedure down.

Procedures can help students succeed in their academic careers because they help create discipline, routine and even organization.  By understanding and doing what is expected of them, students will have more time to learn in class and this gives the students a better opportunity to succeed.
