The first week of class is very important for teachers.  During this time, teachers need to make sure that students are aware of the rules, consequences, procedures and reward system that is put in place.  Making sure the students are on the same page with these helps a teacher establish control of their classroom from the start.  Next, teachers need to make sure that a form is filled out by the student or their parents regarding emergency contact information and work numbers where parents can be reached.  Teachers should also be prepared when it comes to their material they will be teaching by presenting a syllabus to the students or parents so everyone understands and knows what will be taught over each week.  Then, teachers need to practice any school policies and safety procedures.  A good example is how to line up quickly and carefully should there be a fire drill.  Last, I believe that every class should have a seating arrangement so that the teacher can easily move around the room to give and get maximum attention to and from their students.  This will help make sure that every student is participating in the material that is being taught.
