According to Harry Wong, the time to teach procedures to students is the first week of school.  Before starting any lessons, always teach rules and procedures first so the classroom knows what is to be expected from them and so they know how they are supposed to behave.  Before teaching procedures, there are a few factors to think about.  First, you must figure out what routines are necessary in the lessons you plan on teaching and doing, then you need to figure out how the students are to do their activities, and finally teach students through explanation, demonstration, and practice in how to follow the procedures.  Also according to Harry Wong, there are three steps to procedures.  Teach, Rehearse, and Reinforce.  Teaching the procedures means to state, explain, and demostrate the procedure.  Rehearsing the procedures means the students practice the procedure under teacher supervision.  Finally, reinforce the procedures, which means you keep repeating the teaching and practicing of the procedures.  Procedures can have an effect on student achievement because if the students understand what they are supposed to do and follow them, they can better get into their studies, focus, and stay in class due to less discipline and in turn can help them understand their studies better, get their work done, and overall have achievement.
