Comprehension of a text is important and many factors are involved. Fluency is one of the factors that develops when reading often.  Practice is key and develops the ability to insightfully respond to a text.  Active reading is another factor that allows readers to develop and be able to monitor their own reading comprehension.  Vocabulary is important to readings so they can comprehend a familiar word and the relationship. For example: If a reader dosent know what a word is the sentence can't come to life because they cant relate or understand. Background knowledge plays a part of comprehension as well. The reader can relate to everyday activities like: going to the store, meeting new people, getting a dog or loving someone. It makes the poems or news articles easier to read when they have experienced it before.
