The case study I chose is Trevor who is a 6 month old who is developing normally with physical development but needs more support and assistance with cognitive development and affective domain.
The setting is a childcare center infant classroom. There is eye level furniture place in the classroom, as well as mirrors at eye level. There is a ballet style bar attached to a mirror on the wall.
Trevor is encouraged to move from one area to another to get objects out of his reach. Key ring toys (that are attached to each other) are placed hanging from the ballet bar where the mirror is. Seeing his reflection as well as a teacher’s reflection can encourage him to move and reach toward the toys. Using affective dolman, by clapping and smiling to Trevor will help him respond to my expression of emotion. Using the ring toys with the mirror with encourage his interest.
The goal is to encourage Trevor to grab and reach for toys, respond to expressions of emotion and show interest in mirror images.
The materials necessary to support learning for the activity would be ring toys, having eye level and age appropriate mirrors, and supporting teachers.
The procedure for how the activity will be implemented is to engage and provide. By engaging with Trevor, for example, he will become more encouraged and persist on how to accomplish goals. Curriculum and Methods for Early Childhood Educators explains the approach for learning for infants is to show initiative, problem solving, and encourage self-help. By promoting these skills to Trevor, for example, he will grasp concepts of other things. For example, once he accomplishes the goal of reach for toys himself, he will continue to reach for toys and set other goals for himself.
