It is important to identify types of donors because by doing so, entrepreneurs are able to decide who might be the right funder at the right time to help aid the company’s growth. Entrepreneurs need to know if the potential donor cares about the social problem they are supporting, if they have the actual funds available to donate, and the likelihood that they will donate. By identifying donors, a nonprofit will be able to categorize supporters between core donors, new, lapsed but reactivated, and transition donors, and truly lapsed donors. These three different categories tell nonprofits who they should spend fundraising time and money on in order to get funding and what categories are best not wasting efforts on.
