Benefits of Realistic Job Preview
Introduction
The topic I have chosen for this course project is the Realist Job Preview and how the
process benefits both the employee and employer. The open interaction between the two prior to
signing a contract clears up any misconceptions either side may have concerning what is
expected vs what is implied. I am personally going through a hiring process at the moment after
serving in the military for over eight years. Before starting a new job I would like to know the
nature of the work I would be doing and what negative aspects of the job I could expect. When I
was enlisting in the military many details were left out of my initial brief and if they were
conveyed to me in the beginning I would have taken a different path.
Realistic Job Preview provides potential employees a full spectrum of the job which in
return allows for the applicant to make an informed decision if they want the job or if they are
even qualified for it (Phillips & Gully, 2015). This helps the selectin process by weeding out
unqualified applicants and potential quitters. Employees quitting in their first few months of
