Research paper for Phyllis Young
Hello Students,
Now that you have begun the research process, have submitted a draft thesis and outline, and are working on your introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion of the draft essay, I want to remind you of two required strategies that will make the final essay even more effective and add to your grade .
1. Include a paragraph that fairly deals with the opposition point of view. Answer the questions:
- What would others argue who disagree with my points?
- Why are they wrong?
- Why is my argument the better approach?
Include this paragraph that deals with the opposition right before the conclusion of the essay.
2. Add at least one image that supports the points in one of your body paragraphs.
- The image can be a cartoon, a picture, clip art, or a graphic summarizing statistical information. See Chapter 4 in the Current Issues textbook for more guidance on using images.
- Label the image as Fig. 1 and provide a short description.
- Place the image close to the paragraph in which it is referenced. See the example included with this e-mail. This example comes from the sample MLA-formatted essay, which is a good guide to follow. You will find the example in the Student Resources section of Eagle Online.
Make sure your final essay looks like the Example MLA-formatted Student Essay.
Example Use of an Image (in this case a cartoon) in attachment.

Here is the respond of the professor after sending her the draft of the essay you sent me.
I am having difficulty identifying a thesis with the information you have provided in the below outline.
- Introduction
- Body
- Security Enhancement
- Environment Conservation
- References
- Castellano-Hoyt, D. W. (2003). Enhancing police response to persons in mental health crisis: Providing strategies, communication techniques, and crisis intervention preparation in overcoming institutional challenges. Springfield, IL: Charles C. Thomas.
- Conservation Education Association. (2004). Environmental conservation education: A selected annotated bibliography. Danville, IL: Interstate Printers & Publishers.
- Mara, W. (2013). Environmental protection. New York: Children's Press.
- Solove, D. J., & Schwartz, P. M. (2015). Privacy, law enforcement and national security.
Do you plan to discuss improving society by enhancing security and conserving the environment? These are two very broad topics. I recommend that you choose one (not both) and identify 2-3 aspects to discuss.
- Example: To make this country truly great, we all must protect the environment by recycling materials and educating the next generation on the importance of caring for our world..
The outline to support thesis might look like the following.
- Introduction
- The Problem: What are the dangers to our environment
- The Solution: People must be involved in the solution
- Thesis: State the thesis as one focused sentence.
- Recycle
- Importance
- How it helps
- What to do
- Education
- When should education start
- Who should be involved
- What are the results
- Opposition
- Conclusion
In addition to using your 5-7 sources correctly, be sure to deal with the opposition point of view in the last body paragraph before the conclusion. Answer the questions: What would others say who disagree with my argument? Why are they wrong? Why is my solution the best for the community?
Finally, include an image that helps to demonstrate one of your points.
I look forward to reading your final essay.
