I. research paper Instructions:  

1. Your goal for this paper is to formulate a research question and answer it by combining your own analysis of the subject with information from reliable sources. Your research question may be on any specific, debatable topic. I encourage you to ask inquiry-based questions that have no one correct answer. Past students have asked questions like:
1. How do fashion brands use psychology in their advertising?
2. Are there differences between children raised by same-sex and different-sex couples?
3. Should certain works of literature be censored in high schools?
4. Are electronic cigarettes healthier than traditional cigarettes?
5. What is “cuteness,” and why do we see some humans and animals as cute?
2. You will use at least five secondary sources.  These sources must be from the library, the library database, or a reputable website.  Your paper must include an MLA-style Works Cited page and in-text citations.
3. This paper should be 5-8 pages (12 pt. font, double spaced).
4. See me if you have any questions or would like to discuss your topic. 
5. The research paper is 35% of your course grade.

II. Research Proposal Instructions:

The goal of the proposal is to encourage you to begin your research early and to give me the opportunity to comment on your topic

1. Include the following:
1. Name of topic
2. Explanation of why you chose this topic and its importance (2-3 paragraphs)
3. Your research question
4. A working thesis statement (this may change)
5. At least two sources.  Give the full MLA Works Cited citation and write a short paragraph beneath each source explaining what it says and how you plan to use it.
2. The proposal should be 2-3 pages (12 pt. font, double spaced)
3. The proposal is 10% of your course grade.
